Yes, the reason for installing the chroot environment is to run unison. There are also several other things you could use it for.

VNC on Android is for connecting to the local chroot's windows environment. However, you could easily just send commands through ConnectBot or SSH and not use the gui through VNC.

For example, you could create ConnectBot shortcuts on your Android's desktop to automatically initiate the sync commands instead of starting the gui. This is more convenient than launching the Ubuntu gui to start unison.

I am going to build an easy to use solution in December if someone else has not.

Hi Hussein!

You seems to have found something that i was looking for a long time! thanks for this blog post!
I'm also looking for a way to sync folders or files (bi directional) from several devices (windows 7 / XP / android) with my synology NAS. Unison seems to work on my NAS, on both Windows 7 and XP too, but i didn't found Android port for Unison.
I never used Linux and I didn't understand some points on your article :
1. Is the objective of the step "Ubuntu chroot environment installation on Android" is only to make Unison working on Android?
2. I didn't understand why you have to install VNC on android?

Thanks in advance for your answers!
Regards
